Women's Volleyball Lands Three Local Standouts

Wolves Athletics is pleased to announce that three outstanding local volleyball talents will be joining the GPRC Women’s Volleyball program next season.  Stefanie Tschechne and Tonya Dueck from the Composite High School both with Provincial Team experience will be big additions.  The third confirmed addition is Carson Sieban from Provincial Champion St. Joes High School.  All three players have just completed their Club Season with the U18 Wolves squad.

“We are very excited and proud to be able to keep these quality local players playing at home.  The local programs have made a huge commitment in developing these players and we are thrilled they will continue the next level of their development with GPRC.  I know these players will be happy with their decision to stay and play for one of the best volleyball traditions in the country,” states Head Coach Ron Thomson.  Thomson has signed on for another season coaching the Wolves but with a bit of a twist.  This year Assistant Coach Hugh Bartlett will become and Associate Head Coach and take on a few more of the coaching responsibilities.  Coach Thomson says, “I am excited for the new season and the fact that Hugh will be taking more of an active role with some of the coaching responsibilities”.

Bartlett commented that he is looking forward to taking a greater role in the continuing development of one of the most respected programs in the country. “Working with this coaching staff and the GPRC athletes has been the highlight of a very long volleyball career.  I have had a chance to watch these local players and these three young ladies embody the spirit of the Wolves program: hard work, never quit, and once a wolf, always a wolf! They are already on the winning path thanks to their work ethic and their previous coaches,” states Bartlett.

Both local High School Coaches are excited to see their players moving on to the College Program.  Jenny Head, last season’s Composite High School Head Coach and U18 Wolves Club Head Coach, is very excited for her players, “I have played for the Wolves, helped coach the Wolves and know that it is a huge accomplishment to become part of the Wolves Program.  It was a great starting point for me and allowed me to move onto bigger and better things.  Both Stefanie and Tonya are quality athletes and will enjoy the challenge of playing College Volleyball.”

Dan Gorman, St Joe’s Ceniahs High School Coach encourages players to seriously consider spending a year or two at GPRC, not just as a way of giving back, but as a sense of pride for the community. “This is where you grew up, and down the road you will always be grateful that you were once a Wolf. The College has a long and wonderful history. Be proud of it - be grateful and honored if you get that opportunity and invitation to play.” Commenting on Carson Dan feels she was a huge key to the team’s success at provincials, “Carson was a solid leader and had a wonderful work ethic.”

Jordan Abney, GPRC Director of Athletics, is also very happy to have these 3 local talents joining the Wolves family, “it is a great testament to the local high school and club programs and all the coaches involved, that this community continues to pump out a large number of post-secondary level players every year.  I know Stefanie, Tonya and Carson will enjoy their time playing for such exceptional coaches in Ron and Hugh, as well as receiving a first-class education here at GPRC. We look forward to seeing them on campus throughout the summer in the weight room, and on the court in the fall.” ----------
